Sick and Having Fun....

Stayed home with Aerin yesterday, as he nursed a chest cold.

Decided it was time to unveil to him the worlds of Ray Harryhausen. I would have done this sooner - so please do not call Child Protection Services - I was just... well... a little busy, and did not think of it as often as I could have. Brother Rik, slap me now.

This important cinematic threshold was thunk'd about and brought to life after reading one of Aerin's more recent writings, which, along with drawings galore, show up - poof - in the blink of an eye, taped to many a surface in our house.

Said writing:

"List of animals I like.

I like Rakoons.

and I like Lemrs.

and I like Gofrs.

and I like Dragons.

and I like mithukl crechrs.

and lots more.

by Aerin."

Well, of course I knew he liked Mythical Creatures...what do ya think I am, dumb or something?

Knowing that his rough cough (ruff cuff?) would not be going away the next day, Marci and I decided to keep him from school on Friday. So I hustled over to Video Droid and deliberated between the four available Harryhausen fantasy films available on Thursday eve.

Chose Jason and the Argonauts and The 7th Voyage of Sinbad.

We watched Jason after lunch on Friday and he quite naturally loved it. Afterwards I twisted his arm to make him watch the "BONUS MOVIE" of John Landis interviewing Ray Harryhausen. He was not at all interested until they showed some of Ray's sketches for the beasts in Jason. Afterwards I asked Aerin if he would like to make an animated movie. Well, what do you think he said?

He worked for an hour on artwork for both a knight's advenure and an undersea epic, until I finally convinced him to start off small in order to see some immediate results. He grabbed two stuffed friends, Ducky and Peeps, and we started clicking away with our new webcam perched precariously at the bottom of my tripod, itself placed on top of my drawing desk, our stage.

Enjoy!

... and don't worry, I turned his homework in for him Friday morning...
